What is an HSC result card?
Every year, soon after the HSC and equivalent results come out, Facebook fills up with pictures of students holding a number: their GPA. Some are screenshots, some are photos of a printed marksheet, and some are neat little cards with a name, a photo and a bit of colour. Understanding the HSC result and GPA
The HSC result is reported as a letter grade and a grade point for each subject, and then as one overall GPA out of 5.00. Here is the standard scale used by the education boards.

Your GPA is worked out from the points of your main subjects, plus the portion of your optional subject that is above 2.00. Fail in a compulsory subject and the whole result is a fail. Keep in mind that the board result, not this card, is the official record. Colleges and universities will ask for your certificate and marksheet. The card is just a friendly way to share the good news. Tips for a card people want to share
Use a recent photo, not a heavily filtered one. Stand near a window or step outside so your face is lit evenly. Crop loosely, because the circle trims the corners. If your name is long, write the version people know you by, such as the first name and surname.
Pick a design that is easy to read at a small size. The darker designs make the gold GPA badge stand out, while the brighter ones feel more festive. When you post, tag your teachers and friends. A short thank-you to your parents usually gets more reactions than the card alone.

How the HSC result system works
Bangladesh has eleven education boards that handle the HSC and equivalent exams: Dhaka, Rajshahi, Cumilla, Jashore, Chattogram, Barishal, Sylhet, Dinajpur, Mymensingh, Madrasah and Technical. The boards work together through the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, which is why the results are normally announced on the same day and at the same hour.
After the exams, answer scripts are marked, the numbers are entered, and the board checks them before the final list is sent to the ministry for approval. On result day the marks are put on the official portal, sent by SMS and shared with every college. Your roll and registration number are what unlock your own result online, while the SMS route only needs the roll number and the board code.
Once the result is public there is a short window for re-scrutiny, often called a board challenge. The board rechecks the script for counting mistakes and missed answers. It does not mark your paper again from scratch. Dates and fees change from year to year, so always wait for the official notice.
